Nick Cannon Impostor Scams Fred Segal Employee
A Fred Segal employee was duped out of an undisclosed amount of jewelry this weekend when she was conned by someone who claimed to work for Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey.
The man called Fred Segal’s Santa Monica location claiming to be an employee of Nick’s, and saying that Nick wanted to buy some jewelry for Mariah. He asked her to meet him at The Roosevelt Hotel to exchange the jewelry for cash – under the table. The Fred Segal employee obliged, and arrived at the hotel to swap the goods. She met with a man dressed in a security uniform, who said he would take the jewelry up to Nick Cannon and return with the cash. And surprise, surprise, the guy never returned.
Police are investigating, there are no suspects in custody.
Duuuurrrr! How stupid can you be? Releasing jewelry to someone without any verification of who they are, not to mention the whole shady “under the table” transaction. I doubt it’s in Fred Segal’s policy to let employees take a fistful of jewelry and meet random people for tax-free transactions. My guess is this gal is unemployed as we speak. Sorry toots, but you deserve it.
