Britney Spears loses fans as she names homophobic pastor as favorite author
On Tuesday, the “Work B---h” singer staged an interview session with her fans over the social media site. When one user asked Spears what her favorite book it, the pop star responded “Anything by Max Lucado.”
Turns out Lucado is a former preacher at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas (and not related to Spears’ boyfriend David Lucado.)
In 2004, Lucado wrote an article on gay marriage condemning the idea of same-sex unions, the Daily Mail reports.
In answer to the question “what does god say about gay marriage,” Lucado is unequivocal in his
opposition, arguing, among other things, that it will lead to a free-for-all in which people join in marital bonds with zoo animals.
“I find no answer but this: He categorically opposes it. It violates his plan for man-woman permanence,” Lucado wrote.
“If they recognize gay marriage, what will keep them from the next step? Who’s to say that one man can’t marry five women? Or two men and two women? How about a commune marriage? Or a marriage between a daddy and a daughter or a woman and a giraffe?” Lucado continued. “Don’t underestimate the evil bent of the human heart.”
Spears has been a vocal advocate of gay marriage. In 2009, the singer responded to a query from gossip blogger Perez Hilton on the topic by quoting herself.
“Love is love! People should be able to do whatever makes them happy! – Britney”
