Afrobeat Star Femi Kuti Nominated for 2014 Grammy Awards | Covers the New Issue of Mystreetz Magazine

Afrobeat icon, Femi Kuti has been blazing the blogs all year long, with music, concerts and of course, a little gossip here and there. This time around, he’s in the news for his music. Once again, one of the biggest awards in music history has found a rare gem in Femi Kuti‘s music.

His 2013 album ‘No Place For My Dream’ was nominated for the 2014 Grammy Awards in the “Best World Music Album” Category. Femi will be facing off such contenders as Indian musician Ravi Shankar, French group Gipsy Kings and South African group Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

This will also mark the Afrobeat legend’s fourth Grammy nomination. Will he be bringing it home?

In other news, the crew at Mystreetz Magazine decided it was about time this great icon took their cover page. Here’s what Sesan Adeniji, publisher of Mystreetz magazine, had to say about their new December 2013 issue:

Two openly gay men become Prime Minister &  deputy PM

For the first time in history, a country will have an openly gay man as both its Prime Minister and its Deputy Prime Minister. On Wednesday December 4th, openly gay talk show host, Xavier Bettel (pictured left) was sworn in as the Prime Minister of Luxemburg, while another openly gay man, Etienne Schneider, (pictured right) was made his deputy, making Luxemburg the first county in the world with gay men filling the top two spots in its government

"People do not consider the fact of whether someone is gay or not. Sometimes it’s not easy because you have some conservative persons, but there are always less and less and less. I think people vote for my character and they vote for my full party.” Bettel said

And guess the first thing he's doing? Gay weddings. Hehe

“Gay weddings will be done soon. At the moment in Luxemburg, we have to change the situation of marriage, religion and divorce laws. But I don’t think it’ll be in the next five years – it’ll be next year.” Prime Minister Bettel promised.

FIFA Website Hacked

FIFA Website Hacked: Fake World Cup Draws Released

FIFA confirmed Thursday morning that they have been the target of a hacked system, who had published on its website fake (ghosts)world cup groups and draws. The attacked confirmed on FIFA website by a telephone spokesman reads "We were attacked. However, the draw has not been made by FIFA, since the procedure of the lottery will be defined by December 3."
Following the implementation of the process, tests will be made by FIFA to prepare in detail the draw.

The "ghost" groups for the 2014 World cup are:

Group A: Brazil, Mexico, England, France

Group B:Uruguay, Ghana, Japan, Greece

Group C: Colombia, Costa Rica, Bosnia, Cameroon

Group D:Germany, Netherlands, Chile, Australia

According to AFP, the Sharia law enforcers called Hisbah, launched sweeping crackdowns in Kano since September, following a state government directive to cleanse the commercial state of “immoral” practices.They destroyed 240,000 bottles of beer they had confiscated from trucks coming into the city.

So, on Wednesday, a large bulldozer smashed the confiscated 240,000 beer bottles to shouts of  “Allahu Ahkbar” (God is great) from supporters outside the Hisbah headquarters in Kano.Kegs containing more than 8,000 litres of a local alcoholic brew called burukutu and 320,000 cigarettes were also destroyed.

Chris Brown‘s first cover since he entered rehab is out, and the 24-year-old singer can be seen posing shirtless, showing off his many tattoos, (and his defined arms), on the Winter 2014 issue of Urban Ink magazine. Chris’ arms, neck, and torso are covered with various tattoos, which are visible as he stands with his arms crossed around his chest — but it’s the somber look in his eyes that really caught our attention.

We all have particular things or fashion piece we cannot do without, and sometimes, we tend to create our style with such things. While some are lovers of good clothes, shoes or bags, some of us are freaks when it comes to good perfume and we can go to any length to get the best no matter how expensive they may be.
However, in choosing your perfume, it is important to know what scent works better for your body chemistry. You have to understand that all fragrances react differently according to one’s unique body chemistry. The fact that a particular perfume works for your friend or sibling does not mean the same will work for your chemistry.  Some scents will not work well with your body chemistry, no matter how good they smell out of the bottle.
Perfume is a mixture of fragrant essential oils and aroma compounds, used to give a pleasant scent to the wearer. Different fragrances can affect people in different ways. For example, fragrances like rose can be very relaxing. Because of this, wearing a certain type of perfume can make the wearer feel relaxed, feminine, strong, sexy, or light, in any combination. When selecting your perfume, you can choose your scent to convey something about your personality, as well as affect your mood.
Before you choose a scent, you should try it and see if it works for you, personally. Some scents are floral, some are woody, and some are blended, and so forth, so you’ll need to explore what scents work best with your body chemistry.
After you find a scent you like that smells great on you, you’ll need to learn how to apply it well. Make sure that it is subtle and not overpowering; so that the people around you are able to enjoy your new perfume. A dab of fragrance to what are called the pulse points is usually more than enough. Pulse points are where the blood vessels are closest to the skin, like the inner wrists, the base of the throat, behind ear lobes, in the cleavages, behind knees, and the inner elbows.  These spots emanate heat, which can help fragrance to emanate from your skin into the air.
Misting the hair with fragrance is also a great way to leave a gentle scent in your wake, as you move through your day. Those who you choose to get closer to will be rewarded with a fuller scent.  However, in doing that, you have to be careful only to apply perfume to freshly-washed hair, or the natural oils and any lingering hair products will affect the odour. Since perfume contains alcohol and can be drying to your strands, apply sparingly and from a distance.
Lastly, it is also important to note that the more moisturised you are, the longer a fragrance will last on your skin. So, don’t forget to apply body cream before spraying your favourite perfume.

The absence of Jude Okoye, elder brother of the duo of Peter and Paul Okoye of P-Square, has been alleged to be an act of protest on the part of their manager, a friend of the artistes disclosed.
Last Sunday when Peter Okoye and Lola Omotayo held their traditional wedding ceremony, Jude was not in attendance, though he was said to have been somewhere in Accra, Ghana.
The friend, who would not want to be revealed, told R that Jude was alleged to be uncomfortable with the choice of Lola.
He added that the late mum of the musicians had complained to Jude that she wanted his boys to marry from ‘their side’ as she never trusted any female that was not from the East.
“I heard Jude complain a lot about Peter’s  relationship with Lola, especially the fact that she is not from their state. The mother preferred an Igbo babe and impressed it upon Jude to do all he could to prevent what eventually happened last week.  Even Jude took it up with Peter weeks after their late mom’s funeral”, R source alegged, stating that  Peter was in love and wouldn’t bow to pressure from family to end his relationship with Lola.
However, Bayo Adetu, P-Square’s Publicist, reportedly said Jude was missing at the wedding because he was stuck in Ghana.
Adetu asserted that Jude had missed his flight from Ghana to Lagos in time for the nuptials after the duo had performed in Ghana, while another source who was in  Ghana for the concert insisted that Jude  did not travel to Ghana.
 “We didn’t see him. The twins were in Accra with their band but we didn’t see Jude‘“.
Reports had it that some members of the Okoye family allegedly did not support Peter’s marriage to the mother of his kids, Camron and Aliona, and that  their late mother was said to have had her reservations too.
Adetu insists there are no issues, that Jude was only MIA because he was stuck in Ghana.They should leave them  alone .

Michael Callan died at Nashville Airport, Tennessee, after crashing his single-engine plane 500 miles from the supposed destination.
Investigators are baffled why he was so far off course for what should have been a short trip.
Taylor’s agent Paula Erickson said: “The first we heard of this was when the appropriate authorities contacted Taylor’s management about the crash. Taylor does not know this person.”

Every once in a while we like to mix it up and throw in a weekend hair idea. Since there have been so many emails about texturizing powder, we figured it was the perfect pairing! Texturizing powder is used for many things: building body, creating more texture and mattifying. In this tutorial we’re using a simple fishtail braid to demonstrate. As you see in the before photo on the left, her hair is shiny, clean and tidy– looks great as is. But sometimes you just feel like your hair is “too clean”. That could sound insane to some, but if you really want that messy second day hair look, here’s how you get that.

1. Start with clean dry hair. (If your hair is already a little dirty and on it’s second or third day but you really want more texture through the middle and ends, it’s fine, just use a little less in the next step!)
2. Shake some texturizing powder over the top of your hair (or have someone else do it for you if you’re doing a braid in the back). My personal favorites can be found HERE and HERE.
3. Using the base of your thumbs (as you see in the photo), massage the powder into the hair.
4. Gently use your fingers to get more detailed texture.

That’s it! You will find that the powder takes away most of the shine which creates a more “editorial finish” like many of the gorgeous models we pin on our Pinterest boards. Try it and if you don’t love it, just wash it out! Have a wonderful weekend!!

After dressing to impress for the Global Gift Gala in London, Eva Longoria made an appearance in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on Nov. 20 where she looked just as glamorous in an asymmetrical ensemble. The 38-year-old was radiant as she displayed her toned arms in the eye-catching frock. The gown featured a black and yellow stripe which added a pop of color to the dress, which looked perfect against her complexion.

Eva’s red carpet style is always on point, and this look is no exception. With her hair pulled back, the focus remained on the gorgeous gown and her petite frame. Aside from the asymmetrical detailing, the dress draped across her figure and gathered on one side. Not only did it feature a small slit in the front but she held it up, revealing her dainty gold ankle-strap sandals. The metallic shoes offset the ensemble perfectly, and the star looked beautiful, rocking statement earrings and minimal jewels. Her lashes were larger than life, adding dramatic glamour to the ensemble.

When asked what her biggest fashion regret was during an interview with BET's "106 and Park" this week, US First Lady Michelle Obama said the shorts (pictured above) which she wore as she exited  Air Force One with her daughters during a family vacation in Arizona was her biggest fashion regret.

Mrs Obama said she regretted wearing it back in 2009 because of the backlash she received from people who felt it was inappropriate for a First Lady to dress like that.

She told BET,

"Because people were like, 'she's wearing shorts getting off of Air Force One. Sometimes I forget I'm the first lady and I'm running around in shorts."

Michelle said she won't wear shorts on Air Force One or out in public again. But what's wrong with wearing shorts tho?

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has fallen ill while in London for a business meeting a day after his 56th birthday. Reuben Abati, the president spokesman said.

“In the course of his ongoing visit to London for a meeting of Nigeria’s Honorary International Investors’ Council, President Goodluck Jonathan became indisposed and could not be present at the opening of the meeting today,” said Reuben Abati.

“President Jonathan has since been examined by competent medical practitioners. He has been advised to rest for a few days.”

Abati added in an emailed statement that the president’s condition was “nothing serious and that the medical attention he has sought is only precautionary”.

Jonathan, who turned 56 on Wednesday, is not publicly known to be suffering from any serious medical conditions.
